How to Export a Google Maps List (2026 Guide)
Short answer
Google Maps has no export button for a list. Use Google Takeout: click Deselect all, tick Saved, create the export, and Google emails you a .zip. Inside, Takeout/Saved/ holds one .csv per list. Drop the zip or a single CSV into the box below to get an Apple Maps Guide.
How it works
One export covers every list you own.
- Your listsFavorites, Want to go, your own
- Google Takeoutone CSV per list, in a .zip
- GoToAppleMapsfollows each place link
- Apple Mapsa Guide per converted list
Export a list in 4 steps
A Maps-only export usually arrives within minutes.
- Open takeout.google.com and sign in with the account that owns the list.
- Click Deselect all, then tick Saved. (Tick Maps (your places) too if you also want starred places.)
- Click Next step β Create export. Leave the defaults:
.zip, sent by email. - Download the zip from Google's email. Your lists are in
Takeout/Saved/, one file per list, named after the list.
What is in the file
Each CSV has four columns.
Title,Note,URL,Comment CafΓ© Bilderbuch,,https://www.google.com/maps/place/β¦, Tempelhofer Feld,,https://www.google.com/maps/place/β¦,
Title is the place name as you saved it. URL is a Google Maps link to the place. Note and Comment hold anything you typed when saving. There are no addresses and no coordinates in a list export β the link is the only thing that identifies the place, which is why a converter has to follow it.
Import into Apple Maps
Drop the Takeout zip β or a single CSV, KML, GeoJSON or GPX file. Free for up to 1,500 places.
Only a few places? Convert one link at a time.
No file? Share the list instead
If the list is shared (Share list in Google Maps), its link can be pasted into the converter on the home page instead of uploading a file. This reads public shared lists only, and large lists can run into Google's daily limits β it is a beta. Takeout is the reliable route.
Export one list, not all of them
Takeout always exports every list you own. Unzip the archive and pick the one CSV you want from Takeout/Saved/; upload that file alone. If you upload the whole zip, the converter takes the list with the most places.
Starred places are in a different folder
Starred places are not a list. They are in Maps (your places)/Saved Places.json, which β unlike the list CSVs β carries coordinates. The converter accepts both formats; from a combined zip it converts the single largest list or file, so upload files one at a time to convert each.
Lists someone shared with you
Takeout exports your own lists. A list another person shared with you is not in your archive; ask them for the share link and paste it into the converter, or ask them to run Takeout.
Open the CSV in a spreadsheet
The file opens in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets. Keep the URL column intact if you plan to convert it later; the place names alone are not enough to find the right place.
FAQ
Can I export a Google Maps list without Takeout?
Not as a file. Google Maps itself only offers sharing a list by link. Takeout is the only official way to get the list as a CSV; browser extensions that scrape the open list exist but break whenever Google changes its page.
Does the exported list include addresses or coordinates?
No. A Takeout list CSV has the place name, your note and a Google Maps link. Addresses and coordinates come from following that link. Starred places, exported separately as Saved Places.json, do include coordinates.
How long does the export take?
A Takeout export limited to Saved usually arrives by email within a few minutes. Exports that include other Google products can take hours.
Can I import the list into Apple Maps?
Apple Maps has no import feature, but the exported CSV or the whole zip can be converted into an Apple Maps Guide with GoToAppleMaps; each place is matched to its Apple Maps entry.
