Short answer

In Google Takeout, tick Saved and Maps (your places), then drop the .zip into the converter below. You get an Apple Maps Guide with the zip's biggest list; upload each other list's CSV the same way. Places we can't match are listed so you can add them by hand.

Convert in 2 steps

  1. Google Takeout product list with Saved and Maps (your places) ticked, Drive and Photos left unticked

    Export from Google Takeout

In Google Takeout, click Deselect all, tick Saved and Maps (your places), then Create export. Google emails a .zip, usually within minutes.

  2. A takeout.zip file dropped onto the converter, which returns an Apple Maps Guide

    Drop the zip below

No need to unzip; on iPhone, save it to Files first. You get an Apple Maps Guide. Open it and tap Add to Guides (Add to Library on iOS 18).

What's in the Takeout zip

Two folders matter. File names follow your Google account's language.

No Takeout zip? My Maps, spreadsheets and links

A My Maps map: open it at google.com/maps/d/, click the three-dot menu next to its title → Export to KML/KMZ, and upload the file above. My Maps is separate from your saved places.

A spreadsheet: use Name and Address columns (latitude, longitude and link columns are optional), save it as CSV and upload it. Start from the CSV template.

A list of links: for a few, paste each one into Quick Convert. For more, make a CSV with a Name column and a Link column, one place per row, and upload it. See convert multiple Google Maps links.

How many places match

Over the last 30 days, 67.5% of places matched automatically. Smaller lists do better — about 73% for lists under 50 places — and very large lists do worse, about 64% above 700. Unmatched places are listed so you can add them by hand. See the live figures.

  • Moves: place names and locations, one Apple Maps Guide per upload.
  • Stays in Google: your reviews, photos and ratings.

FAQ

How long does it take to export and convert all my Google Maps saved places?

Google usually emails a Maps-only Takeout export within minutes. The conversion starts as soon as you upload, and bigger lists take longer. Each upload converts one list.

Will I lose my Google Maps saved places after exporting?

No. Takeout makes a copy. Your places stay in Google Maps, and you can keep using both apps.

Can I convert Google Maps starred places and custom lists separately?

Yes. Each list is its own CSV in the Saved folder, and starred places are in Saved Places.json. Upload one file at a time and each becomes its own Apple Maps Guide. A whole zip converts only the file with the most places.

Do my Google Maps reviews and photos transfer to Apple Maps?

No. Reviews, photos and ratings stay in Google. Place names and locations move.

What happens to places that don't match in Apple Maps?

They are listed separately, so you can search for them in Apple Maps and add them by hand. Over the last 30 days, 67.5% of places matched automatically; live figures are on the stats page.
