  • ⏱ About 5 minutes
  • Free, no sign-up
  • iPhone or computer
  • Updated September 2026

Short answer

In Google Takeout, tick Saved and Maps (your places) and export. Google emails you a .zip within a few minutes. Drop that zip into the upload box below — no need to unzip — and you get an Apple Maps Guide back.

How it works

Your places travel in one file. Google makes it, we read it.

  1. Google Mapsyour saved lists
  2. Google Takeoutemails you a .zip
  3. GoToAppleMapsmatches each place
  4. Apple Mapsone Guide, all places

Export in 4 steps

The pictures are simplified — Takeout's real page is longer, but the buttons are the same.

  1. takeout.google.com Select data to include 54 of 54 selected Deselect all Access log activity Alerts

    Open Takeout, click “Deselect all”

    Open takeout.google.com and sign in. Every Google product starts ticked — clear them all first.

  2. Saved your lists Maps (your places) starred Drive Photos

    Tick “Saved” and “Maps (your places)”

    Saved holds your lists — Favorites, Want to go and your own. Maps (your places) holds starred places. Leave everything else off so the export stays small.

  3. Create export .zip · send link by email ~5 min later Your Google data is ready Download

    Create the export and wait for the email

    Click Next step → Create export. The defaults are right. A Maps-only export usually arrives within a few minutes.

  4. takeout.zip drop here My Guide

    Drop the zip below

    Download the .zip from Google's email — on iPhone, save it to Files. Don't unzip it; we find your places inside.

Import into Apple Maps

Drop the Takeout zip — or a single CSV, KML, GeoJSON or GPX file. Free for up to 1,500 places.

Drop your Takeout file hereor tap to choose — the whole .zip is fine

Only a few places? Convert one link at a time.

Several lists in one zip? We convert the list with the most places. For another list, unzip and upload its .csv from the Saved folder.

What's inside the zip

Only two folders matter. File names follow your Google account's language.

Other ways to export

Takeout is the right choice for almost everyone.

Export a My Maps map as KML
  1. Open google.com/maps/d/ and open the map.
  2. Click the three-dot menu next to the map title → Export to KML/KMZ.
  3. Pick the whole map or one layer, then Download.

My Maps is separate from your saved places — this exports only the map you built. KMZ is a zipped KML; both upload here.

When Takeout isn't available

Some Google Workspace accounts have Takeout switched off. Browser extensions and bookmarklets can scrape the list currently open in Google Maps into a CSV. They break whenever Google changes its page, and they need access to your Maps data — use open-source ones you can inspect, and prefer Takeout whenever it works.

File formats: CSV, GeoJSON and KML

Takeout CSV (one per list)

Title,Note,URL,Comment

URL is the column that matters for moving places — it carries the place name and usually coordinates. See Google Maps URL formats.

GeoJSON (starred and labeled places)

{ "type": "Feature",
  "geometry": { "type": "Point", "coordinates": [13.404954, 52.520008] },
  "properties": { "name": "Work", "address": "Alexanderplatz 1, 10178 Berlin" } }

Coordinates are [longitude, latitude] — longitude first.

KML (My Maps)

<Placemark>
  <name>Brandenburger Tor</name>
  <Point><coordinates>13.377704,52.516275,0</coordinates></Point>
</Placemark>

Also longitude first: longitude,latitude,altitude.

FAQ

Does Google Takeout export all my saved places?

Yes. Google Takeout exports every list you have in Google Maps — Starred places, Favorites, Want to go, and any custom lists you created. Each list is exported as a separate CSV file. Labeled places (Home, Work) are exported separately in a JSON file.

What file format does Google Maps export use?

Google Takeout exports saved places as CSV files (one per list) and GeoJSON files for your reviews and labeled places. If you use Google My Maps, you can also export as KML or KMZ. The CSV files contain columns for Title, Note, URL, and Comment.

Can I import my Google Maps saved places into Apple Maps?

Apple Maps does not have a native bulk import feature, but you can use GoToAppleMaps to convert your exported CSV file into an Apple Maps Guide. Upload your Takeout CSV, and each place gets matched to its Apple Maps equivalent and added to a shareable Guide.

How long does Google Takeout take to export Maps data?

For Maps data specifically, Takeout usually completes in under 5 minutes. Google sends you an email with a download link when the archive is ready. Larger exports that include other Google services (Drive, Photos) can take hours or even days.
