Short answer

A maps.app.goo.gl or goo.gl/maps link is only a redirect to a full google.com/maps link, so your iPhone opens it in Safari or Google Maps, not Apple Maps. Paste it into the converter below: it follows the redirect, reads the place name and coordinates, and gives you an Apple Maps link.

Fix it in 2 steps

  1. Quick Convert with a pasted maps.app.goo.gl short link and the Convert button highlighted

Paste the short link, tap Convert

Copy the maps.app.goo.gl or goo.gl/maps link and paste it into the box below.

  2. A maps.app.goo.gl short link expanding into the full google.com/maps link, with the place name and coordinates highlighted

    It's expanded, then converted

The converter follows the redirect to the full link, reads the place name and coordinates, and hands you an Apple Maps link to open.

Convert a link now

Paste any Google Maps link — place, pin, short link or directions.

Whole list? Use the file converter.

Still not working?

  • It points to a saved list. Quick Convert takes one place. Export the list and use the file converter, or the app.
  • It's a share.google link. That comes from Google Search, not Maps. Open the place in Google Maps and share it from there.
  • It's a directions link. Only the final stop converts.
  • It won't resolve. Try again. Still stuck? Open it in a browser, copy the full google.com/maps link it lands on, and paste that.

FAQ

Do all Google Maps short link formats work?

Yes, both maps.app.goo.gl and goo.gl/maps links. A share.google link from Google Search is not a Maps link: open the place in Google Maps and share it from there.

What if the short link won't resolve?

Try again, then open it in a browser, copy the full google.com/maps link it lands on, and paste that into the converter. If it points to a saved list, use the file converter instead.

Why can't Apple Maps open a short link?

It only points to Google. A maps.app.goo.gl link redirects to a google.com/maps web link, which iPhone opens in Safari or the Google Maps app. Apple Maps needs a maps.apple.com link, which is what the converter makes.

Is the short link sent anywhere?

Yes, to our server, which follows Google's redirect and returns the full link. Links that fail to convert are logged for 14 days so we can fix the parser. Details are on the Privacy page.
