Can You Sync Google Maps with Apple Maps? What Actually Works
Short answer
No. Neither app syncs with the other, and neither offers a way for another app to read or write your saved places continuously, so nothing can keep them in step. What works is a one-time move: export your lists with Google Takeout and convert them into Apple Maps Guides in the box below. When a list changes, export and convert again.
Why there is no sync
Google Maps stores your lists in your Google account and lets you take them out only through Google Takeout, as files. Apple Maps keeps Guides and favorites in iCloud with no import and no export. Without a live connection on either side, a “sync” app would have nothing to attach to — which is why none exists, and why any product that claims to sync the two is worth a careful look.
What works instead
| You want to… | Do this | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Move everything once | Takeout export → drop a list CSV below (the whole zip converts your largest list) → one Guide per converted list | ~10 minutes |
| Keep using both apps | Save in one app; convert single links with Quick Convert as you need them | seconds per place |
| Update a Guide after the list changed | Export again and convert again; add the new Guide in Apple Maps and delete the old one | ~5 minutes |
| Go the other way | Decode an Apple Maps link or Guide into Google Maps links with the Decoder | seconds |
Import into Apple Maps
Drop the Takeout zip — or a single CSV, KML, GeoJSON or GPX file. Free for up to 1,500 places.
Only a few places? Convert one link at a time.
Does re-converting duplicate my Guide?
Each conversion produces a new Guide link. Open it, add it to Apple Maps, and delete the old Guide there. Apple Maps does not merge Guides.
What about the iPhone app?
The GoToAppleMaps app (it needs iOS 26) does the same conversion on the phone and keeps a history of your Guides, so re-running a list is a tap. It does not sync either — there is nothing to sync against.
FAQ
Is there a way to sync Google Maps saved places with Apple Maps?
No. Google Maps only exports saved places as files through Google Takeout, and Apple Maps has neither import nor export for Guides and favorites. Without a live connection on either side, no app can keep them in sync.
Can I at least move my saved places once?
Yes. Export your lists with Google Takeout and convert them with GoToAppleMaps — upload a list CSV at a time, or the whole zip for your largest list; each converted list becomes an Apple Maps Guide. Repeat the export when a list changes.
Does Apple Maps import from Google Maps?
No. Apple Maps has no import feature. A converter matches each exported place to its Apple Maps entry and builds a Guide link you add to Apple Maps.
Can I sync from Apple Maps to Google Maps?
No. You can decode an Apple Maps link or a shared Guide into a list of places with Google Maps links using the Decoder, then save them in Google Maps by hand.
