How to Convert a Google Maps Link to Apple Maps on iPhone
Short answer
Long-press the link, copy it, paste it into the converter below, tap Convert, then Open in Apple Maps — in Safari, on any iPhone. With the free GoToAppleMaps app (iOS 26 or later), share the link to the app instead and it opens in Apple Maps.

GoToAppleMaps app
In any app, share a Google Maps link — or a message containing one — to GoToAppleMaps. The place opens in Apple Maps. Free.

The default maps setting won't do it. Only in the EU (iOS 18.4 or later) and Japan (iOS 26.2 or later) can you pick a default navigation app (Settings › Apps › Default Apps › Navigation). Elsewhere there is no such setting. Either way, a google.com/maps link is a web link and still opens Safari or Google Maps — convert it.
FAQ
Do I need to install the GoToAppleMaps app?
No. The converter on this page works in Safari on any iPhone. The app, for iOS 26 or later, only saves the copy and paste: share a link to it and the place opens in Apple Maps.
Does this work on older iPhones?
Yes. The web converter works in Safari on any iPhone. The GoToAppleMaps app needs iOS 26 or later.
Can Google Maps links open in Apple Maps automatically?
No. iOS can't redirect a google.com/maps link to Apple Maps by itself, and the default navigation setting (EU and Japan only) doesn't change that. Each link has to be converted — or shared to the app.
Which Google Maps links can I convert?
Place, pin, search and short links (maps.app.goo.gl), plus directions links, which convert to the final stop. Saved lists and My Maps need the file converter or the app.
